How is natural gas stored?

Currently, the storage methods for natural gas mainly include gaseous storage and liquid storage.
1. Gaseous storage: surface storage tanks, pipeline storage, and underground gas storage.
1Surface storage tanks.
Natural gas surface storage generally uses metal gas tanks, which are classified into high-pressure and low-pressure tanks based on pressure.
2Pipeline storage.
Natural gas pipeline storage includes gas storage at the end of the transmission main and using pipe bundles for storage.
Pipeline storage capacity is relatively small, mainly for urban peak shaving during day and night or hourly.
3Underground gas storage.
Surface.LNG.Low-temperature storage tanks and pipeline storage can only serve as measures to eliminate the imbalance of gas usage during day and night. To fundamentally solve the seasonal gas usage imbalance, the essential method is to build underground gas storage. If there is no underground gas storage, the main gas transmission pipeline should be designed based on winter gas consumption. In winter, the gas transmission pipeline will operate at full load, while in summer, due to reduced gas consumption, the load of the gas transmission pipeline will decrease. Therefore, the utilization rate of pipelines and equipment will drop, and the proportion of fixed equipment investment in gas transmission costs will increase. In cases where there is a significant difference in gas consumption between winter and summer, the reduced summer load of the gas transmission pipeline is not only economically unreasonable but also causes many difficulties in gas transmission technology. If there is underground gas storage, the main gas transmission pipeline can be designed based on the average daily gas consumption. In summer, excess gas can be injected into the underground gas storage, and in winter, insufficient gas can be supplemented from the underground gas storage..In this way, the gas transmission pipeline can operate at full load throughout the year, and the capacity of pipelines and equipment can be fully utilized.
Underground gas storage has the advantages of large storage capacity, saving surface.LNG.The investment in low-temperature natural gas storage tanks is not affected by climate, is easy to maintain and manage, does not affect urban beautification planning, and does not pollute the environment.
2. Liquefied natural gas storage.
Due to the flammability and ultra-low temperature of liquefied natural gas.(-160.℃.)Therefore, the requirements for storage facilities.(tanks.)During the storage period of liquefied natural gas, well-insulated tanks are used, but no matter how good the insulation effect is, a certain amount of evaporated gas will always be generated. The capacity of the tank to hold these gases is limited, and when the working pressure in the tank reaches the allowable maximum value, the increase in evaporated gas will cause the pressure in the tank to rise.
The storage area should use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. The use of mechanical equipment and tools that can easily produce sparks is prohibited.
The storage area should be equipped with leak emergency handling equipment and is prohibited from being stored with strong oxidants such as bromine pentoxide, chlorine, hypochlorous acid, nitrogen trifluoride, liquid oxygen, difluorine oxide, etc.
The above is an introduction to the storage methods of natural gas. Did everyone understand? In the future, I will share related knowledge with everyone, and I hope you like and share it.~~
